Farmer: Elkin Arcila
Farm Name: Medio Mundo
Farm Size: 4 hectares
Shade-grown under native trees, selectively hand-picked, with organic soil enrichment and meticulous fermentation control to bring out the coffee’s natural citric clarity and sweetness.
Relationship with Lozana Organics:
Direct-trade partnership since 2024, focusing on honey-process fermentations that express the bright and fruit-forward character of Caturro while maintaining sweetness and balance.
Tasting Notes: Fruity aroma with notes of tropical fruit and citrus. Bright citric acidity, medium-creamy body, and a lingering sweet aftertaste balancing freshness and depth.
Body: Smooth and medium with a creamy texture.
Acidity: Bright, citric, and lively.
Sweetness: Clean, honeyed sweetness with subtle tropical undertones.

Fermentation Type:
Controlled anaerobic honey process lasting approximately 90–100 hours. This extended fermentation enhances fruit aromatics and sweetness while maintaining a clean, balanced profile true to the Caturro variety.
Drying Method:
Slow marquesina drying for 12–15 days to preserve sugars and achieve stable humidity levels that highlight texture and clarity.
Water Use:
Minimal — following sustainable honey-processing principles to protect local water sources.
“With this Caturro, my goal was to capture the energy of Támesis — bright, fruity, and full of life. The honey process allows the sweetness to shine while keeping the cup balanced and expressive.”
Purchase Model:
Direct trade. The coffee is depulped, fermented, and dried at Finca Medio Mundo by Elkin Arcila in Támesis. Lozana Organics purchases the parchment directly, performs de-parching and quality control in Guatapé, and consolidates the lot for export. It is then transported by truck to the port of Cartagena, shipped to the Port of Felixstowe (Suffolk, UK), and stored near Heathrow or delivered directly to the roastery.
This model ensures full transparency and traceability from farm to cup, maintaining ethical and quality standards at every stage.
Supply Availability: Approximately 40 kg per month
Price: £15.0 / kg (landed UK, ex-warehouse Heathrow)
(Delivery to the roastery not included)
Before becoming a coffee farmer, Elkin Arcila worked in the beverage industry, specialising in water quality and fermentation. Seven years ago, he moved to Támesis to care for a family member who required frequent medical check-ups. Settling in the cool highlands overlooking the Cartama Valley, he discovered a terroir uniquely suited to specialty coffee — where morning mists and rich volcanic soils create complexity and balance.
At Finca Medio Mundo, Elkin continues to experiment with fermentation and sensory development, guided by both scientific precision and a deep respect for the land. He is also the founder of Támesis’s first specialty coffee producers association and a weekend barista school for local children. His work reflects a belief that innovation, education, and community are the roots of truly exceptional coffee.
